Top 10 Crazy Christmas traditions

Pooping log

In the spirit of the season , I have choosen to do another top ten. We all have werid Christmas traditions in our homes but let see these top ten.

1) Christmas log

The bizarre Catalonian tradition of caga tió (or “defecating log” in English) involves creating a character out of a small log – often complete with a grinning face and hat – which sits on the dining room table during the fortnight leading up to Christmas. It has to be fed every day with fruit, nuts and sweets, and then – on Christmas Eve – the entire family beats the log with sticks, while singing traditional songs, forcing the log to excrete its treats. Christmas pudding anyone?

2) Halloween or Christmas

Instead of glittering ornaments and tinsel, Ukrainian Christmas trees are covered with an artificiaspiders and cobwebs. But Dude it Christmas not Halloween . Legend as it, there was a poor woman who could not afford to decorate their Christmas tree. But the next morning, her children woke up to see the tree covered with webs and when the first light of Christmas morning touched the web threads, they turned into gold and silver and the family was never left for wanting again.

3) Indians have gone bananas

Due to its topical enviroment instead of Christmas pine trees lining up celebrating households, you’ll find brightly lit, well-decorated Christmas banana or mango trees on the streets. They even use the leaves of those trees to decorate their houses.

4)  Kentucky Fried Christmas

While most western families feast on homecooked Turkey and brusselsprouts. In Japan most families opt for a bucket KF Chicken (Hooray for Japanese mums).. More than 240,000 barrels of chicken will be sold during Christmas, five to ten times its normal monthly sales.

5) How Mary found Joseph ?

On Christmas Eve, unmarried Czech women practice a traditional fortune telling method to predict their relationship status for the upcoming year. If you’d like to give this a try, here’s how to do it: Stand with your back to your door and toss one of your shoes over your shoulder. If it lands with the toe facing the door it means that you will get married within the year. If it lands with the heel facing the door, you’re in for another year of unmarried status.

6) Acting the goat?

In 1966 a 13-metre tall goat figure made of straw was erected in the town square of Gavle. At the stroke of midnight, Christmas Eve, the goat went up in flames. Since then it was tradition to burn the goat.

7)  Santa Claus vs Sinterklass

In the Netherlands Sinterklaas wears a bishop’s tall hat, red cape,  shiny ring, and jeweled staff, rides through town knocking on doors late at night. He would be accompanied by his long-time helpers Black Pete,

8) The Krampus

Krampus is Sinterklass evil twin whose job is to beat and punish all the children who have misbehaved. On December 5th men dress up in some of the scariest devil-like costumes you can imagine and drunkenly run around towns hitting people with sticks and switches. The Krampus legend originates in the Germanic alpine regions

A wild looking half-man, half-beast character — rattled chains and threatened to steal away the naughtiest children in his big black bag. And for those “less bad” he had switches for exacting lesser punishments! And for the good children — Sinterklaas and the Krampus would deliver a bag of goodies.

9) Latin countries being cheeky

Along with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, a Caganer, or “Shitter” in English, is placed in the scene. The Caganer is a figurine, traditionally of a man, in the act of defecating, pants around his knees bending over with pile of feces at his heels. He is usually placed in a corner, perhaps because he needs privacy.

10) Santa’s Own Postal Code

H0H 0H0 (with zeros instead of the letter ‘o’) and it’s in Canada where postal codes are alphanumeric. But for the past 30 years, Canada Post volunteers (in the thousands) had been helping Santa reply to a million letters (every year!) from children around the world in different languages, including Braille.

Bro Code

Bro Code?

This post emerged after  reading a  thought provoking article in TIME magazine. I began to question the stigma behind the  infamous ‘Bro Code’. Fraternities ,Bankers and Athletes are images we thinking of when young men are in a large groups extrovertly upholding the Bro Code. After reading the article by Rosalind Wseman, perhaps it is time wet take a closer look at the Bro Code and examining if it helps or hurts young males.

Wiseman interviewed  17-21 year old males, seeking something deeper then the cheers and grunts. Do young men actually care more then they let on? Particularly on issues such as social, communicating and (of course) sex. Breaking down the stigma of the boy lead by his (you know what) to a person who actually cares about others around him.

One of the most shocking figures was that 81% of suicides are young male yet the remaining 19% of females are publicly reported. When the media tells parents watch your daughter but the lads are alright. Yes, physically they are fine, but how about mentally? Speaking from experience communicating with parents about real issues has been a struggle. It is unatural for  a guy to talk  , shutting down is easier for us.And the stigma we must uphold doesn’t help either. Eventually we express things in actions, this is nothing new ,but with the internet it now has a very lasting consequnce.

Facebook , twitter, snapchat and many more enhances our ablility to shut down and project a image. It also the new places to voice our concerns without the awkwardsness. Wiseman states that 70% (incuding) of young male will not speak to parents about sex, relationships and bullyng.  Adults asking questions doesn’t help either.

Is this Bro Code hurting us ?Is it more of a code of silence and no emotions for fear of  not upholding the stigma? How can we change this? I encourage people to read this Article

I went to University…. online

For those who may have read a early post (Khan Academy) in the year may know I’m a firm believe in free education. As tution rises and information becomes more freely available. I can’t help but wonder why some College grads I have spoken with say That they either ‘did not expect their degree content’ or ‘regret thier Major choice’.

Now I can’t be blind when discussing jobs or prospects when finicial times are hard and I’m still in school without understanding of “The Real World”

However I can say to my fellow High schooler to consider their Majors a little more carefully. One way some highschoolers (in their last year) can choose their Majors is by using OpenCourseware . This is when elite College post their video recorded lectures online and materials.  And this has certainly change my chioces by been able to  somewhat preview topics.

That I may be covering next in College has definity helped me in choosing which Courses I can look forward to or stay clear away from. For those who look back with regret its not too late to learn something new and get back into the workfore.

IF your still choosing a Major or Using Opencoursesware Comment below

Personality?

AS a teenager we re often excused of having a bad personality. The endless search for identity and a sense of belonging to something and feeling comfortable with who we are eat away at us. For me I have always been challenge for being the devil advocate , and not obeying authority. My troubles have always come from wanting to change the way things are in a vocal way. OR thinking to far ahead and not keeping focus.

Although personality test are extremely rigid and box people in sections. But this particular test was extremely accurate in the description.

I am proudly a ENTP – The visionary.

As an ENTP, My primary mode of living is focused externally, where I take things in primarily via my intuition. My secondary mode is internal, where I deal with things rationally and logically.

However there is weakness that I spotted which I have to improve such as focusing and seeing through an idea. And curb my lust for arguments and becoming conscious of other people feeling in a debate.

When it comes developing a personality there always something you can work on. WHy not try it yourself Here

7 Cloud Computing apps for School/College

Google Drive/Dropbox: As cloud computing takes over harddrives or portable storage. With usb sticks and harddrives is that there is always one horror story of how viruses ,physical damage or both have lead to ost data. Drive and Dropbox eliminate that make those nightmares a thing of the pass 5-15 GB of free  storge plus the much storage supplied after a small fee. I would recommend Google drive as a better application as it has a better sync with your gmail and chrome.

Wunderlist : This is a brillaint To-do list for organization probably the best out there on the app store. Can be sync with your phone and tablet. Notes and collab with college mates on possible project this is excellent , although sync with a IOs,Android,PC,MAC and chrome.

Google Keep/ Calender : Once again Google productive power comes out with a new organising tool , but keep appears like sticky notes to been messy and not as co-ordinated . Keep is relatively new so more feature are yet to come , such an app for a tablet . The sync with gmail as ever is handy for keeping thing to one account meaning less login details to remeber. Google Calender another tool for scheduling.

Evernote. : This was designed specfically in mind for college/students in mind . It great for question papers with out using paper ( great for the enviroment) . A stylus  for ipads or samsung takes some getting used to but eventually starts to feel like a pen.

Anydo . This To-do although not as detail as wunderlist . Its beter run on lower androids OS
and straight foreward it also syncs with chrome ,phone  and tablet.

My Google basis is strongly sense but from experience this works syncing make things a lot easier and saves on space . Also Google updates keep the apps running smoothly.
