Bro Code

Bro Code?

This post emerged after  reading a  thought provoking article in TIME magazine. I began to question the stigma behind the  infamous ‘Bro Code’. Fraternities ,Bankers and Athletes are images we thinking of when young men are in a large groups extrovertly upholding the Bro Code. After reading the article by Rosalind Wseman, perhaps it is time wet take a closer look at the Bro Code and examining if it helps or hurts young males.

Wiseman interviewed  17-21 year old males, seeking something deeper then the cheers and grunts. Do young men actually care more then they let on? Particularly on issues such as social, communicating and (of course) sex. Breaking down the stigma of the boy lead by his (you know what) to a person who actually cares about others around him.

One of the most shocking figures was that 81% of suicides are young male yet the remaining 19% of females are publicly reported. When the media tells parents watch your daughter but the lads are alright. Yes, physically they are fine, but how about mentally? Speaking from experience communicating with parents about real issues has been a struggle. It is unatural for  a guy to talk  , shutting down is easier for us.And the stigma we must uphold doesn’t help either. Eventually we express things in actions, this is nothing new ,but with the internet it now has a very lasting consequnce.

Facebook , twitter, snapchat and many more enhances our ablility to shut down and project a image. It also the new places to voice our concerns without the awkwardsness. Wiseman states that 70% (incuding) of young male will not speak to parents about sex, relationships and bullyng.  Adults asking questions doesn’t help either.

Is this Bro Code hurting us ?Is it more of a code of silence and no emotions for fear of  not upholding the stigma? How can we change this? I encourage people to read this Article

7 Cloud Computing apps for School/College

Google Drive/Dropbox: As cloud computing takes over harddrives or portable storage. With usb sticks and harddrives is that there is always one horror story of how viruses ,physical damage or both have lead to ost data. Drive and Dropbox eliminate that make those nightmares a thing of the pass 5-15 GB of free  storge plus the much storage supplied after a small fee. I would recommend Google drive as a better application as it has a better sync with your gmail and chrome.

Wunderlist : This is a brillaint To-do list for organization probably the best out there on the app store. Can be sync with your phone and tablet. Notes and collab with college mates on possible project this is excellent , although sync with a IOs,Android,PC,MAC and chrome.

Google Keep/ Calender : Once again Google productive power comes out with a new organising tool , but keep appears like sticky notes to been messy and not as co-ordinated . Keep is relatively new so more feature are yet to come , such an app for a tablet . The sync with gmail as ever is handy for keeping thing to one account meaning less login details to remeber. Google Calender another tool for scheduling.

Evernote. : This was designed specfically in mind for college/students in mind . It great for question papers with out using paper ( great for the enviroment) . A stylus  for ipads or samsung takes some getting used to but eventually starts to feel like a pen.

Anydo . This To-do although not as detail as wunderlist . Its beter run on lower androids OS
and straight foreward it also syncs with chrome ,phone  and tablet.

My Google basis is strongly sense but from experience this works syncing make things a lot easier and saves on space . Also Google updates keep the apps running smoothly.

Do Hard Things

Review : Do Hard Things. By Alex and Brett Harris.

This book was given to me by my Aunt for my Birthday and just as any teenage guy I similes, a cowardly said sure “I will read it” , but tossed the book aside with a ” Aint nobody got time for that attitude” and continued with my overly Important business . Almost a year older and wiser I decided it was time to give the book a try after finding it under a pile of things.

This book revealed a lot of things personally , with a simple message “Do hard things ” .

“Hard things”does not mean eating only Vegan products , or self denying for no reason.

Aimed at teens the concept of doing hard things seem unnatural to us. After all achieving nearest minimum target to keep afloat is what teens do best. Alex and Brett Harris aim to challenge this stereotype, At the time of writing and publishing still 17/18.

These brothers showed clearly that doing hard things and pushing boundaries is actually in the nature of teens. Energy and a vision for the impossible , is what drives young adults as seen in my previous post Gen Y. The Harris brothers challenge us to rebel against the low standards place on us teens of today. The challenge to not just be consumers but doers.
Alex and Brett still have their blog @ http://www.rebelution.com

Teen or not there is still hope, find your self a challenge and don’t look back. Make sure other also hold you accountable .

Generation Y

Great Conversation

Gen Y’s  Who are they? And why should we care about them?

Gen Y’s are those who are born between 1980 – 2000s. Also known as Millenials. So I guess I’m a Gen Y.

This Generation is the up and coming workforce soon to been driving the economy forward. However the old folks don’t think we are ready yet well let’s see. Millenials have been often label Narcissus , self-entitled ,self-centred and in need of tough love.

Little true as fact shown in this labels , but stats show that never before has any Generation before had such access to information and mass media on such a scale. This tech savvy young adult is a far cry from his/her predecessor highly educated and also unemployed . Inclusiveness is becoming a fundamental part of our culture and borders are no longer obstacles from sharing our Awesomeness to the world.

I can’t help but think perhaps the goals and objectives of the Generations have changed not the people. Young adults now want their work to make a difference in the world around them yet resist religious intuitions . Social Media has help to overthrow governments in the Arab spring to electing an African-American president define Gen Y. Those are big changes from a lazy generation living at home with mum.

So yes Generation Y may shop at Forever 21 when 29, still argue over cartoon characters. And yes we must work hard for everything we receive. However we are the Generation that Questioned . Why should ethics and Business be separate? Why should Dictators been allowed to rule? Why should people not be allowed to live on their passions?
